Officially starting at State on Monday (yay!).  Apparently starting a new job is the equivalent of going back to school in my brain, because I'm having the same dreams.  Namely, that I show up and either forget something terribly important or get lost.  In my back to school dreams I always got lost trying to find a class.  Now I'm getting lost trying to find my office.  Though given the size of the State Department building, that might not be entirely unrealistic.

You're not going to hear me say this very often, but I'm actually really liking the weather in Washington right now.   It feels like fall in Los Angeles  -  sun shining but just a little cold (still  over 65° , haha).  Just cold enough to feel like summer's over.

And change is in the air - I might get to start at State on Monday (fingers crossed)!  What a birthday present *that* would be.

MySpace lesson the First: Way more people than Facebook.

MySpace lesson the Second: Not always easy to identify people by their profile.

MySpace lesson the Third: Too much blinky html crap.  (And sound.)

More to come?

I joined Myspace today.  Boredom at work won out.  That and the desire to read blogs and profiles for people have strict privacy restrictions (not that there's anything wrong with that).  Of course, now that it's there I have no idea what to do with it.

This is the second temp job in a row where a law fim is paying me a reasonable hourly rate to mess around on the internet for about 5 out of 8 scheduled hours.  Last week I had to answer the phone when it rang.  This time I do mail and let couriers in and stuff.  It tells you something about law firms and the kind of money they have to play with that they find it worthwhile to pay someone to do these sorts of tasks.  Big contrast from NETWORK (and, I imagine, other non-profits), where the Development Director was also in charge of buying coffee.

But whatever.  I guess if I'm going to mess around until I get this security clearance anyway, I might as well get paid for it.  I don't mind, really.

I'm very excited about the new TV season.  Amazing Race has an interesting-looking cast (although I was disappointed that two of the most interesting-looking teams were eliminated already).  Studio 60, while not generating the immediate love from me that West Wing did, promises to be a great show - it's good to have Aaron Sorkin back writing, and I love Brad Whitford so very much.  There are several more coming up this week that look promising, which is so welcome after a summer of only Project Runway to look forward to!  I love TV.

So yeah.  Somebody want to explain to me what I should do with this Myspace account now?
